Furniture Refinishing

We strip the varnish or paint off with a liquid chemical.  The process is called over-flow stripping.

Stripping

A nylon bristled brush that secretes the chemical is used to scrub the entire piece down, the extra chemical

is recycled and reused.  Once the piece is clean we wash it off with thinner to neutralize the chemical.

The repairing of the piece is done after it has been stripped.  This is done so that the adhesives used to repair

the piece are not weakened by the stripper chemical.  Next, we will assemble the piece and make

sure all parts fit and operate smoothly (drawers, doors, shelves, etc.).

Sanding is done according to the species of wood.  We usually sand two to three times finishing up with

Sanding

a fine grit sandpaper (320).  By sanding this way there will be no visible sanding or mill marks and the

stain will go on with a nice even appearance.

We apply penetrating wood stains (oil and lacquer) that give ultimate clarity and enhance the look of the wood.

Our clear coat is called DuraVar Plus by M. L. Campbell.  This is a high solids (42%) finish that is water and

chemical resistant (see manufactures warranty).  This finish is harder than lacquer and more scratch resistant.

We spray on two base coats then sand with fine grit sandpaper (400).  Then, we apply the final coats, in the

sheen of your choice (Flat, satin, semi-gloss, gloss).
